Ricoh R8 camera review
What’s The Deal With Ricoh R8 Camera
Upgrading is common to the fickle minded digital camera industry. With new developments in technology come higher resolutions or additional features, with a sleeker design to throw in. Just six months after the release of the Ricoh R7 camera, the manufacturer has, again, launched its new model Ricoh R8 camera. The R8 Ricoh camera is way ahead the Ricoh R7 when it comes to megapixels, with the 10-megapixel advantage of Ricoh R8 as opposed to Ricoh R7 8 megapixels. Ricoh R8 has a bigger 2.7 screen with a clearer resolution of 460,000 pixels. Also, Ricoh R8 camera has an edgy, boxier look than the R7. Ricoh R8 can be described as a minimalist camera, evident to its simple and unadorned covering and noticeable straight lines. However, both Ricoh R8 and R7 cameras have 3rd generation Smooth Imaging Engine and 28-200 Equiv. Zoom that will make potential buyers of Ricoh R8 think if there is really a significant upgrade on the product.
It is interesting to note that the launching of Ricoh R8 to the market has been a bit discreet and late compared to the massive and almost simultaneous new product announcements of big camera manufacturers such as Sony, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, and Canon. Ricoh did not join the bandwagon when these top camera manufacturers heralded their new toys shortly before or on PMA in Las Vegas. Instead, Ricoh created a buzz about the new R8 camera on an inconspicuous press event, weeks after other camera manufacturers paraded the new gadgets in town.
Although Ricoh has not exchanged notes with the major competitors about the schedule of marketing this year’s latest gadgets, it can compete with amazing features that are not often present in the competitor’s products. These features include white balance adjustment in review mode, 1:1 image ratio option, and a movable AF/AE target area.
Other features of Ricoh R8 camera are 10.0 million effective pixels, ISO 600, Optical Image Stabilization (sensor shift), Smooth Imaging Engine III, 7.1x (28-200 equiv.) zoom. step zoom selectable (28, 35, 50, 85, 105, 135, 200mn), Face Detection, 2.7” LCD Screen (460,000 pixels), 1cm macro mode, AF/AE Target Shift, and levels and white balance adjustment in review mode. The Ricoh R8 camera is more likely to compete with Canon SX100 IS and Panasonic TZ Series on the market. Ricoh R8 is reviewed by users online with good quality in smaller-sized prints, great ultra-high resolution LCD, one-of-a-kind level and white balance adjustment in playback mode, nice metal covering, and customizable adjustment menu. The regular price of Ricoh R8 camera is $400.
