Best TVs to use with the Wii
Gamers all over the word who want no less than the best from their Wii have been hyping on what’s the best TV for this game console. Since its introduction in November 19, 2006, it supposedly would work just fine in all TV formats, whether in good old CRT (cathode-ray tube), SDTV (Standard Definition TV), or HDTV (High Definition TV).
Choosing one among the best TVs to use with the Wii depends on a lot of factors, majority of which may be are too technical such as aspect ratios, scanning formats, and digital/analog TV. The most important measuring stick to use in purchasing TV for Wii is the budget, and all other factors will just be a matter of consequence. A small budget would mean fewer choices of TV that will be a good pair to Wii, and a higher one means more options in selecting TV.
Once you have decided on the bill, then you can either go for an SDTV or HDTV/EDTV. What do they mean? They are both digital; the only difference lies in the scanning format that the TV technology uses. Computer Desktop Encyclopedia shows that SDTV has 480 lines in resolution and has an aspect ratio (aspect ratio is the ratio between the width and length of the TV screen), which means that it has the same format with that of analog CRT TV.
HDTV or EDTV uses 1080 lines for scanning. It also has 16:9 aspect ratio. It has crisper, bigger picture that SDTVs lack, though not to the point that you should discard SDTV from the list.
SDTV is less expensive and for most respects, is the best TV to use with Wii because the game console’s video output comes in the same format. According to WiiLiving.com, a blog network dedicated for discussion of Wii, SDTV has the ability to blur images that make rough edges (because of the digital pixels) not apparent. For a heavier reason Nintendo created Wii for SDTV, not HDTV.
Does this mean that HDTV is not good for Wii? No. There are peripherals that come with the game console, like 480i composite cable or 480p component cable, such that it can work well with HDTV. Demonstrations between these two cables reveal that 480p will produce better results. However, the jaggies (or the rough edges) occur frequently in HDTV than in SDTV. It is anticipated that Nintendo will release new Wii with HDTV in the future, what with more gamers moving on to high end televisions.
What’s the best TV to use with Wii? For budget reasons and video outputs, stick to SDTV.
